From Thursday May, 5 2011 to June 11, Paola Rescio Gallery presents the second show in the space of Via Rasori 6, the solo of Alice Olimpia Attanasio entitled The Last Supper, curated by Paolo Meneghetti (1979), contemporary aesthetics critic.

Dal giovedì 5 a sabato 11 giugno 2011, la Paola Rescio Gallery ospita la seconda mostra nello spazio di Via Rasori 8, una personale di Alice Olimpia Attanasio dal titolo The Last Supper, a cura di Paolo Meneghetti (1979), critico d'estetica contemporanea.

Mabel Palacín: 180º is the title of a project which, curated by David G. Torres and promoted by the Institut Ramon Llull, will represent Catalonia and the Balearic Islands in their first joint participation in the Venice Art Biennale, the world’s most important contemporary arts show. It is a video-art installation in line with earlier works by Mabel Palacín, which have all won unanimous plaudits from the international critics. In her proposal, Palacín reflects on the crisis in the status of the image and the change in its relations with reality.

Mabel Palacín: 180º è il nome del progetto promosso dall’Institut Ramon Llull di cui è commissario David G. Torres e che rappresenterà la Catalogna e le Isole Baleari alla loro prima partecipazione congiunta alla Biennale d’Arte di Venezia, la mostra d'arte contemporanea più importante del mondo. Si tratta di un'installazione di video-art sulla stessa linea di altre opere precedenti di Mabel Palacín, che le sono già valse l’unanime plauso della critica internazionale. Nella sua proposta Palacín riflette sulla crisi dello status dell'immagine e sul cambiamento del rapporto dell'immagine con la realtà.

Barometro Lamps è la prima collezione firmata dal giovane designer toscano Giacomo Ravagli in esclusiva per Nilufar in occasione del Fuorisalone 2011, con una speciale preview al PAD di Parigi dal 30 marzo al 2 aprile prossimi.

Barometro Lamps è una famiglia di lampade da tavolo e da pavimento composte da base in marmo raro di origine italiana – come il rosso levanto - scelto per la bellezza, il colore e la rarefazione del processo estrattivo. I paralume sono ottenuti da sofisticati ed inaspettati tagli e piegature, in lamine sottili, di metalli nobili ed instabili come il rame, a cui il designer assegna, di volta in volta, un processo di invecchiamento controllato o che presenta nella loro brillantezza naturale.

Il rosso levanto, a fondo rosso, è irrorato da venature bianche di calcite, quarzo e, a volte, da inaspettati giacimenti verdi di serpentino che punteggiano superbamente i pezzi in mostra.

Barometro Lamps is the first collection signed by young Tuscan designer Giacomo Ravagli exclusively for Edizioni Nilufar in the occasion of Milano Design Week 2011 – with a special preview at PAD Paris 2011.

Barometro Lamps is a family of table and floor lamps composed by a rare Italian marble base – as the Rosso Levanto – Giacomo Ravagli has chosen for its beauty, the marvel of the tones as well as the rarefaction of its quarrying.

The lampshades are formed by sophisticated, unexpected twisted and cut lamina of noble and unstable metals as copper, at which the designer assigns, time by time, a controlled ageing grade or that he presents in its natural beauty.

Giacomo Ravagli, 29 years old born in Tuscany, started to make sculpture when he was 18: he didn’t apply for a fine art academy or for a sculpture MA but searched for a long apprenticeship in the best artisanal marble workshops located in Pietrasanta (Lucca, Tuscany), the heart of marble quarries and industry in the world together with the other Tuscan city, Carrara.

Giacomo Ravagli, 29 anni, inizia a scolpire all'età di 18. Non sceglie un'istruzione accademica o specializzata, decide di andare a bottega dai maestri e dagli artigiani di Pietrasanta (LU), cuore estrattivo e distretto produttivo mondiale del marmo (insieme a Carrara) nella sua regione di nascita, la Toscana.

Il suo primo mentore, Sergio, aveva oltre il doppio dei suoi anni. Gli ha insegnato tutto quel che sapeva senza parole. Si limitava a mostrargli come fare, perché il marmo produce polvere e rumore: parlare è difficile, forse superfluo secondo Sergio.  Basta guardare, provare e riprovare, per imparare piano piano a forgiare, domare l'elemento. Annegati nella luce naturale del giorno, da quando sorge il sole a quando tramonta.

After a month exactly from the end of Home From Home, the first design residency and workshop the Spazio Rossana Orlandi hosted with my production, it is time to see what happened...the show by JAMESPLUMB recorded an incredible success with press and public. Not least, of selling!

HOME FROM HOME A residency, a workshop and an exhibition by JAMESPLUMB

A bed born from a lucky encounter with a country window, a dining table made from the tips of roof timbers and parts of an old dresser, new additions to the Concrete Stitches series – a bench and chair made functional again by casting black concrete which has been moulded and sanded by hand, the dog-lamps Kodiak and Palomino born thanks to a collaboration with the director and photographer Bruce Weber, a chest of drawers made of old suitcases, a coffee and conversation table made by old books and candle holders, a night lamp projecting the moon, the beginnings of a small home cinema and other pieces that will be finished during the show- compose the nomadic house of the London duo in Milan.

Tentiamo una definizione assoluta per ridefinire una casa indimenticabile nella memoria di chi la visita o la vive? Secondo noi, deve essere nomade, post-punk, curiosa e proattiva verso tutti gli scarti. Certo, poi, occorrono tonnellate di poesia, di quella di ottima fattura, da disseminare ogni dove per avere successo, se si sceglie di ridefinire una casa con questo vocabolario.

"How can an all-in-all definition for an unforgettable home be reshaped?

With a nomadic, post-punk, curious aptitude toward discarded pieces, is one of the answers. Yes, of course: tons of poetry, of the excelling type, has to be disseminated to succeed in this case.

 "Love for us, love around each of our guests and for what is outside our walls, love for what we exhibit, use, preserve, restore and reassemble, re-think, re-work - in a word restore from oblivion" say JAMESPLUMB after finishing their last shooting with two international magazines (Elle Decoration, Wallpaper) who will report extensively in their January 2011 issues their work in progress for Home From Home, their first solo show at Spazio Rossana Orlandi with the collaboration of Diana Marrone, their pr and agent.

They are working on several pieces while commencing their third week of the workshop, visited by many curious customers and art lovers beside a good amount of International and Italian press.

Today we introduce Henry Oyhenart III, a new addition to their series called Monuments to the Anonymous, that has been preceded by Henry Oyhenart II (pictured), which was on show at From This Day Forward, during the Fuorisalone 2010. 

The designers are working with a little old furnace, experimenting with filling its tiny and rusty walls with beautiful silk thread from the Orlandi archive: in a sudden, "literary" gesture the forgotten furnace may become a centrepiece for our dining rooms, a subtle and beautiful functional sculpture. 

A new house for imagery or for escaped birds, a lighting piece with many new lives to come.

Old tie boxes are making friends with 70's chairs with metal frames, while piles of 50's warehouse trolleys are starting up courtyard conversations with benches, old office cabinets and chests which have peices missing.
